Kimberly Benson Appointed to Federal Advisory Committee
on Small and Minority Business Policy Matters
Principal of Cange International to Serve Four-Year Term
SAN DIEGO, November 29, 2007 - Kimberly Benson, Vice President of Cange International, Inc. has been appointed to serve on the U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. Trade Representative's Industry Trade Advisory Committee (ITAC-11) for Trade Policy Matters. The committee provides advice to U.S. government trade negotiators on a broad range of policy issues and initiatives of importance to U.S. exporters.
Benson brings over 20 years experience in international trade and commerce to the position. She has traveled and sold products into over eighty countries worldwide. In her position at Cange International, Benson specializes in assisting U.S. consumer goods manufacturers with commencement or expansion of their international sales. She is a board member of the San Diego World Trade Center and is active in the California Chamber of Commerce Council for International Trade, organizations that advocate trade to open foreign markets for the benefit of west coast businesses.
“Kimberly Benson has been a tireless proponent of international commerce,” stated Bella Heule, President of the San Diego World Trade Center. “She possesses a unique understanding of the challenges and opportunities presented to small companies as they enter foreign markets and makes a terrific addition to the committee.”
Susanne Stirling, Vice President, International Affairs, California Chamber of Commerce, agrees with Heule's assessment. “Kimberly is a tremendous asset to us at the CalChamber Council for International Trade,” said Stirling. “International commerce accounts for one quarter of California's economy. With Kimberly's understanding of trade policy issues as they relate to California, her appointment to ITAC-11 should only prove to be an additional boon for California's exporters.”
ITAC-11 is comprised of industry representatives from the small and minority business sectors. Committee members are appointed for four-year terms. Meetings are held quarterly in Washington, D.C. Over the past year the committee has addressed such issues as small and medium enterprises' (SME) trade priorities for the many U.S. free trade agreement negotiations, SME participation in the WTO Ministerial, better education about SME export assistance services, SME concerns related to doing business with such growing markets as China and Brazil and the future of the trade advisory process.
Benson is looking forward to the challenge.
“Although Cange International is a small company we have successfully managed and assisted numerous U.S. manufacturers in developing and growing their export business,” stated Benson. “As global markets grow-and competition increases-we need to ensure we are doing everything in our power to facilitate the competitiveness of U.S.-based companies as they enter foreign markets. ITAC-11 is the perfect forum in which to share this message and help shape U.S. trade policy.”
